Jail is the upcoming movie of National Award Winner Madhur Bhandarkar who has previously given us Fashion, Page 3, Chandni Bar and Corporate etc. The movie stars emerging talents Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse. The music of the movie has been composed by brothers Sharib and Toshi Sabri along with Shamir Tandon. Like other movies of Madhur Bhandarkar, Jail also does not have too many songs. It just has four songs and the soundtrack promises to be a mix of pacy as well as melodious numbers.
The album begins with "Bareli ke bazaar mein" that appears more like an item number. Sung by Sonu Kakkar, this song is more oriented for masses. Quite a fast paced and energetic mix, it has a mixture of rustic influences with western electronic beats. You will also find the remixed version of the song that has English lyrics as well. The remixed version pales in comparison to the original one.
‘Daata Sun Le’ is the next song that is devotional in nature. The greatest female singer of India, Lata Mangeshkar has sung this beautiful song. She has crooned after a long time. Her voice definitely gives the song an edge and it is kind of soothing. As is the trend, the song is also present in contemporary version.
The next song is "Milke yun laga", crooned by Sharib. It is basically a love ballad that has elements of rock as well. The last song of the album is "Sainya ve" sung by talented Toshi. Quite an impact song this one is. It is available in both versions.
Quick Gun Murugan – Music Review
The music of this movie has been composed by Sagar Desai. However, emerging Indi-pop singer Raghu Dixit has also chipped in for the song Murugan Superstar. The movie generated quite a buzz and was full of humour and funny scenes. Interestingly, the album begins with a Dialogue Mix and no doubt it’s hilarious. Quick Gun Murugan first came into prominence with Channel V's iconic bovine-loving cowboy and boasts of a loyal fan following. The opening dialogues are quite exaggerated but that is supposed to be specialty of the favourite southern gunslinger. It is quite long but, well you will manage to finish it off and will have your quota of some chuckles as well.
‘Murugan Superstar’ is the next number composed by Raghu Dixit and I must say, it’s a light, happy and easy composition. The chorus is great fun and song comes as very simple and yet quite effective. The next one is ‘Mind It’. Many people consider it as a Tamil Bhangra and you will have to accept that song is very innovative. Composition is quite interesting and song has the double bonanza flavor of bhangra and sambhar. ‘Kyoon Keeda Hai Aapko’ will certainly make you laugh. It’s witty and hilarious.
‘The sombrero’ is the next offering and it will remind you of great cowboy western themes. You can consider it as the theme song and it’s catchy as well. ‘Chat Mangni Lover’ is the next number which is basically a retro ballad. The song leaves a lot to be desired after generating the initial excitement. More of a predictable song but yes, it has great chorus. ‘Kuchi Kuchi Twist’ is breezy in nature whereas ‘Mera Naam Mango Dolly’ is a cabaret number that is appealing as well as spoofy. The last one is ‘Space Goddess’, a remixed version but it will make you move. All in all, quite an interesting album with elements of fun.
Main Aur Mrs Khanna
Main Aur Mrs Khanna is a combined venture by Sohail Khan Productions and UTV Spot Boy. Their last venture Kisaan failed to set box office on fire but this one promises to be a blockbuster with star cast consisting of unmatchable Salman Khan, younger brother Sohail Khan, lady of the season Kareena Kapoor and comedian No 1 Govinda. Movie also has Preity Zinta in a special appearance. The music has been composed by talented duo of Sajid-Wajid. The duo has given music for Salman’s recent movies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and the latest Wanted. The music of these movies proved to be a hit with the masses. Going by the track record of the combination, an expected hit is in pipeline.
The album starts with 'Don't Say Alvida' which is nothing if not ear pleasing, simple and sweet melody. It is a beautiful composition that is sure to tug at your heartstrings. We can’t really say, it is an outstanding and innovative tune but yes, it is definitely pleasing and will stay with you for a while. The composition will remind you of Jatin-Lalit and Nadeem-Shravan era. Sonu Nigam has done a commendable job. This song also has a sad version sung melancholically by Shreya Ghoshal. Quite an emotional song it is.
The next number, ''Happening'' is quite a happening track. It is a dance number that has been picturised on glamorous Priety Zinta. The song is more like a techno qawwali. Voice has been rendered by Sunidhi Chauhan and I must say she is in top form. ‘Rabba’ has been sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and this is as soulful as it can get. It is a heart-wrenching song with sad lyrics. ‘Tum Ne Socha’ is kind of soft rock love ballad and slowly it grows on you.
The album ends on a high note with funny and situational theme song, 'Mrs Khanna'. All in all, movie has potential to be a musical hit and you can go for it.
Blue – Music Review
The movie ‘Blue’ is generating right buzz in the filmy circle. The movie has many ‘Firsts’ to its credit. It is the first Hindi movie that has been extensively shot underwater with the entire crew indulging in scuba diving. An action adventure movie, the movie gives you exquisite view of the sea. Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision and directed by Anthony D'Souza, BLUE has songs by Oscar winner A. R. Rahman. It is also the first time that music maestro has composed music for Khiladi Kumar. That kind of is surprising because despite being in the industry for almost two decades, both had never worked with each other. Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue has also lent her voice for the first time for any Hindi flick. With keeping all things in mind, movie is bound to create some buzz and lots of expectations. One more thing, Resul Pookutty, another Oscar winner, is the sound engineer for BLUE. What else we can ask for?
Let’s talk about the most talked about song of recent times and sung by Kylie Minogue ‘Chiggy Wiggy’'. We can safely term it as a dance track with elements of bhangra, soft pop and earthy tunes. Kylie has a sung in a sensuous tone and that naturally sets the tone for rest of the album. Song is sure to rule party circuits for a while. The next number is 'Aaj Dil Gustakh Hai' can be termed as a true Rahman number. The song is magical and is quite romantic. Sukhwinder has done a commendable job in the song.
'Fiqrana' is the next number and is almost like a theme song. Vijay Prakash and Shreya have performed really well in the song and the tunes are in sync with Rahman’s signature style. Moving on to 'Bhoola Tujhe', the song has hit combination of Rahman, Abbas Tyrewala and Rashid Ali (of 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi' (JTYJN) fame). A beautiful 'Sufi' based composition; the song will enthrall your senses. The album has few other songs as well and you can’t help but mesmerize at the talent of Mozart from Madras. A must have for your collection.
Wake Up Sid – Music Review
Well, before saying anything let’s take a look at the credit line of the movie; Karan Johar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (SEL) and Javed Akhtar. Phew! What do you expect then? Some urbane, peppy and memorable song? True that. The music of ‘Wake Up Sid’ has already been released and it is gaining entry into chartbusters. For further effect, Amit Trivedi has also composed for the movie. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rahul Khanna, Anupam Kher, Shikha Talsania, Supriya Pathak and Namit Das, the movie promises to catch the fancy of youngsters.
The trio of SEL has had a mixed year so far with some hit and some miss. That explains why they have put their best foot forward in the music of this movie. The gifted trio can never be blamed for lack of effort and that’s why we can see how much effort they have put into the music of this urban flick. The first song of the album ‘Wake up call’ is a breezy one with ample usage of loud guitar strumming and thrilling percussions. The song boasts of upbeat rock music and backup vocals give the song a true urban feel.
The club mix of the same song has been made more thematically. Quite a high tempo song, one can feel like grooving on it. Definitely seems to be a chartbuster. 'Kya Karoon' is more on sentimental side and will remind you of bygone era. The next number is 'Aaj Kal Zindagi' and this is more like a motivating song. ‘Iktara’ has been composed by Dev D fame Amit Trivedi and the song is a very different one. It touches you and that is the beauty of this song. 'Life is Crazy' is a song on the mould of a carefree life. The album has all the essential ingredients of becoming a musical hit.
All the Best – Music Review
Rohit Shetty earlier made hit comedies like Golmaal and Golmaal Returns. Both were well received by the masses and the pair of Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty hit on the purple patch. They wish to continue the momentum with their new release ‘All the Best’. Movie promises to be a laugh riot and stars Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Mugdha Godse, Asrani, Mukesh Tiwari, Ashwini Kalsekar and Johnny Lever. Music has been composed by Pritam and movie is a typical masala one. One can eagerly wait for elements like breath-taking stunts, splendid VFX, bankable face value with cool splash of rollicking thrust of rock-music and plenty of comedy. Pritam has been a roll with hits like New York, Dil Bole Hadippa and recently released Love Aaj Kal. So expectations are running high and ne expects Pritam Chakraborty to deliver big time in tune with large star cast of this larger than life flick.
Let’s begin with the track, ‘Dil Kare’. With blazing guitar playing in the background and accompanied by roaring vocals, this is sure to be a pulsating track. Concert lovers will love the feel of this song. Vocals by Suraj Jagan and Rupam Islam, dil kare will be in demand for some time. 'Haan Main Jitni Martaba' is a romantic track with varied tempo and supple vocal harmonies. Pritam wonderfully uses electric guitars, bass guitars, pianos and keyboards fillers in the songs of ‘All the Best’.
Title track 'All the Best' is totally fun with musical effect ruling the rust. Sung by Rana Mazumder, Soham Chakrabarthy along with Antara Mitra, this song thrives on ‘Samba’ music and rock music. 'Kyon' is a melodious song that I well sung by Clinton Cerejo. This number is most likely to touch your heart. The final offering is ‘You Are My Love' that is filled with fun and quite a racing number it is. The album in its totality is definitely Paisa-Vasool.
What’s Your Rashee? – Music Review
Almost all of Ashutosh Gowariker's movies have been identified with strong themes and wonderful music composed by Mozart from Madras, A R Rahman. But surprisingly this time, his movie ‘What’s Your Rashee’ does not have Rahman as composer. A new composer Sohail Sen has been roped in to compose music for this much anticipated movie. And needless to say, the chap has done a commendable job. The movie has Priyanka Chopra and Hurman Baweja in lead roles and movie was released recently. It’s a three hour long movie and has generated quite a buzz.
New composer Sohail Sen is the son of Sameer sen, himself a leading composer. The movie has wonderful songs belonging to different genres. There are romantic songs. Folk tunes, pacy numbers and rabic songs as well. Overall, this seems to be a good package. The film has total 134 songs and one song each for 12 zodiac signs (as per the theme of movie). Even Gowariker has sung in the movie.
The album starts with soft number and already a hit among masses ‘Jao na’. The composer Sen himself has sung the song along with Tarannum Malik. Definitely a pleasing song, it is intriguing as well. Young generation is sure to be appealed by the theme of the song. The next one is ‘Aaja lehrate’ sung by Shaan and Bhavya Pandit. Fast in nature, the song is quite peppy. However, it will fail to keep your attention for long.
‘Bikhri bikhri’ is the next song rendered by Sohail Sen and Marianne D. Cruz. Quite a soft and soothing song. Next in the list is ‘Mannunga mannunga’ that has been rendered by director Ashutosh Gowariker himself. The next track is ‘Sau janam’ which is basically a love ballet sung by Udit Narayan, Madhushree and Sen. Definitely one of the best songs of the album.
‘Aa le chal’ is the next one sung by Aslesha Gowariker which is an average one. Next in the list is ‘Pyaari pyaari’ sung by Alka Yagnik and Sen. A melodious song. ‘Su Che’ is sung by Sen and Bela Shende and is a fast-paced. ‘Salone kya’ is more into Arabic mould. Rest of the songs is ‘Dhadkan dhadkan’, ‘Pal pal jisko dhoonde’, ‘Koi Jaane na’ and ‘Chehra jo dekhe hain’. Overall, a decent album that you should try at least once.
New York – Music Review
The movie ‘New York’ ended bollywood’s dry run by becoming a modest success. The movie did a good business in different parts of the country including abroad. New York is often referred as ‘City of Paradise’ and is associated with flamboyance. Kabir Khan, the director after his critically acclaimed ‘Kabul Express’ did manage to step up the tempo and gave a good movie catered around the universal theme of terrorism. The music of the movie is composed by talented Pritam and stars John Abraham, Neil Mukesh and beautiful Katrina Kaif. Produced by Yash Raj Films, movie has terrific songs and was well received by public.
The song ‘Hai Junoon’ has been sung by hugely talented Kay Kay Menon and many consider as the best song of the album. Lyrics have been written by Sandeep and song thrives on mild rhythms on synthesized percussions-guitars. Singer has done wonders with the song. The song proved to be a chart buster and even the remix version was for long remained a party circuit favorite. The second song ‘Mera Sang’ has been rendered by Sunidhi Chauhan. The song is worth listening again and again. There is certain lazy elegance about the song. Sunidhi has like always delivered a commendable job.
‘Tune Jo Na Kaha’ has been sung by emerging star Mohit Chauhan and I must say, this guy has got oodles of talent. He has recently delivered one hit after another and there is no stopping this guy from scenic place Himachal Pradesh. Truly a mesmerizing singer he is. Next song is ‘Aye Saaye’ and the vocal is by Pankaj Awasthi. It is sufiana song that has elements of contrast which makes it even more appealing. ‘Sam’s Theme (Instrumental)’ is the next number with vocals by Caralisa Monteiro. The last number in the album is ‘New York Theme’ which is quite a different one. It has elements of hard rock and percussions. Overall, the album is worth having a dekko.
Sikandar- Music Review
Directed by Piyush Jha, Sikandar has earned rave reviews in the filmy circles. The movie centers around the theme of terrorism in Kashmir. The movie has Parzun Dastur, Ayesha Kapur, Nasreen, Sanjay Suri and R Madhavan. Produced by Sudhir Mishra the movie has its music composed by Justin Yesudas, Uday Shankar and Sandesh Shandilya.
‘Chaal Apni’ is the first song of the album and it is nothing less than a blissful melody. The song will seem very simple and that very quality of its will take your breath away. The song has beautiful Santoor and appealing chorals and well supported by lyrics written by Hrishikesh Kamerkar and Hamsika Iyer. Worth listening to again and again. The next number is the list is ‘Allah Hoo’ that has a spiritual touch. Rendered by Hrishikesh Kamerkar and Yash Narvekar, vocals are top notch and lyrics are soothing. The rhythm is primarily focused on percussion.
‘Gulaon Mein (upbeat)’ is the next song of the album. It is a melodious song that thrives on KK’s voice. KK has sung in a spirited way and the music has been given by hit trio of Shankar-Ehasan-Loy. Moving on to ‘Dhoop Ke Sikkae’, this song can be termed as the best song of the album. Wonderful mixture of hard rock guitars, stunning vocals and heart-binding lyrics and you have popular one on your hand. ‘Arzoo’ is not really an appealing song and won’t stay with you. Perhaps, it looked better on screens. Talking about ‘Manzaraat’, Shilpa has rendered her husky voice for the song. Music is pretty ordinary however you will remember the voice. Overall, Sikandar does have its moments but in general it is one hit after another miss.
Love Aaj Kal – Music Review
Love Aaj Kal is the production debut of established actor Saif Ali Khan. Directed by talented Imtiaz Ali, movie gave a big hit to bollywood after long. Earlier, the director had also given us memorable ‘Jab We Met’ that had memorable songs. Pritam is once again the director of the music and he has left no stones unturned in producing great music. The film has Saif and Deepika Padukone as leading star cast. As far as songs are concerned, there are total seven originals and three remixes in the soundtrack.
The album starts with ‘Aahun aahun’ that is definitely racy and fast paced. It is a kind of mix of Punjabi and Hindi song. The song has been sung by Neeraj Shridhar and is an interesting mix of two different genres and the combination works out pretty well. This song has proved to be a chartbuster. The song also has a remixed version that has been equally appreciated by the crowd.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has rendered his soulful voice for the next song ‘Aaj din chadeyya’. It is basically a romantic song that works out pretty well and somehow you can never ignore Rahet’s voice. He has got this magnetic charm about his voice. The song will stick with you. Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Sridhar have put their best foot forward for ‘Chor bazari’ and it is definitely one of the highlights of the album. It has got peppy music and makes you groove. ‘Main Kya Hoon’ is a fast paced song wonderfully sung by KK. If you are seeking Punjabi Flavor then go for ‘Thoda thoda pyar’. ‘Twist’ is another song sung by Neeraj Sridhar which is basically a dance number. The last song is ‘Ye dooriyan’ sung amazingly well by latest craze in the town Mohit Chauhan. Overall, a good album that you can get hold of.
