Lahore – Music Review

Music Director: M M Kreem

Lyricist: Junaid Wasi with Panchhi Jalonvi and Piyush Mishra

Singers: Daler Mehndi, Shankar Mahadevan, Shilpa Rao, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Lahore is a recent release that has earned critical and commercial success on the box office. The album is an interesting mix of theme track, situational songs and inspirational tracks. M M Kreem has come back after a hiatus and has done no harm to his reputation here. Piyush Mishra and Panchhi Jalonvi are the guest lyricists in the movie.

The album begins with the anthem track 'Ab Ye Kaafila' which is about the bunch of sportspersons progressing ahead in their quest of success. The track has a smooth flow and the best part about it is that it’s not at all overly predictable and patriotic. It comes easy on ears and will make you pay attention to it. The next track is ‘Musafir' rendered by Daler Mehnndi. It’s a soft situational track. The song has a pensive feel to it and has been repeated in the voice of M M Kreen himself.

The next track is 'Rang De' sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Shilpa Rao. It’s a foot-tapping number and has got Punjabi flavour to it. ‘Saaware’ has been crooned by M M Kreem. It’s a nice, sad song and the singer has given his very best to it. Up comes the longest track of the album, 'O Re Bande' that has a length of 8 minute. The track has Sufi feel to it and it has been sung by talented duo of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shilpa Rao.

The album ends with 'Lahore - Theme' that has an international appeal to it. It’s a classy music and has been composed by Wayne Sharpe. Overall, Lahore is a decent album that could have found more takers had enough promotion had been done of the album.

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge- Music Review

Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge was one of the first movies of 2010 to do decent business on the box office. The movie stars ever so reliable Ajay Devgn, super talented Konkona Sen and versatile actor Paresh Rawal. The movie belonged to comedy and drama genre and along with commercial success, it also tasted critical acclaim. Interestingly, most of the recent movies of Ajay Devgan were in comedy genre and they all have done good business. Remember, Golmaal series and All The Best? This movie has been directed by Ashwani Dhir and the music department has been handled by troika of Pritam, Amit Mishra and Vishal Bhardwaj. Irshad Kamil has penned down the lyrics.

The album begins with ‘Aaja Aaja’ sung by Raghubir Yadav, Ajay Jhingran and Rajneesh. This one is the title song and the singers have managed to maintain the balance throughout the song. The song also has some interesting comic instances and dialogues that make it even more effective. The second song is the remixed version of same song ‘Aaja Aaja’. A complete dance number this one is.

The next number is ‘Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ sung by Amit Mishra who is also the composer of the song. The number has desi tune and western beats. A humming number basically, it has been composed in an interesting way. ‘Dohay’ is the next track and it has a serious and sober tune. The lyrics are meaningful and the chorus is effective.

The next track is ‘Jyothi Jalaile’, sung by talented Sukhwinder Singh and composed by Vijay Bhardwaj. This one is more like a parody of ‘Beedi’ song from Omkara. You get the feeling that singer is singing it at a temple or a pooja gathering. No doubt, the song is very lively. The last number of the album is ‘Sukh Karta’ that is more like a prayer. All in all, an okay album that you can try once.

Isqiya Music Review

What usually happens when Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar come together for a movie? Well, magic is the word that comes to our mind. Remember, their association in Omkara and Kaminey? Both movies had wonderful music and listeners could not have enough of the powerful duo. To make your music wishes come true, they have come together again for the movie ‘Ishqiya’ and needless to say, the tracks of the album are outstanding. Movie has been directed by Abhishek Chaubey whereas Vishal Bhardwaj has produced and composed music for the album.

Ishqiya stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan. Music lovers are forced to marvel at the soundtrack of the movie and it is surely going to stay with you for a long time. The pick of the album is undoubtedly ‘Dil toh Bacha hai’. The moment you hear it in the soulful voice of Rahet Fateh Ali Khan, you will yearn for more. It has magnificent lyrics and one has never seen Rahet Fateh Ali performing below expectations. He is in top form here.

On the other end there is Ibn-E-Batuta, truly a firecracker of a song. Singers Mika and Sukhwinder singh have got it all right with their combination. Track is full of energy and will make you ‘jhoom’ into an entertaining territory.

Rekha Bhardwaj has done no harm to her image by singing some of the magnificent songs in recent times. Vishal Bhardwaj gets the best out of her and here again; she has done a terrific job in ‘Ab Mujhe Koi’. The slowness of the song is addictive and spirals around the listeners.

Rekha has done another number ‘Badi Dheere Jali’ that has mix of classical as well as fusion. Lyrics are mesmerizing and Rekha will sure leave you wanting for more. Album also has one remix of Dil To Bachcha Hai and two for Ibn-E-Batuta.

There is no denying the fact that Gulzar gives his best to Bhardwaj and the silent winners are we listeners who get to hear such beautiful songs. Go grab this album!

Quick Gun Murugan – Music Review

The music of this movie has been composed by Sagar Desai. However, emerging Indi-pop singer Raghu Dixit has also chipped in for the song Murugan Superstar. The movie generated quite a buzz and was full of humour and funny scenes. Interestingly, the album begins with a Dialogue Mix and no doubt it’s hilarious. Quick Gun Murugan first came into prominence with Channel V's iconic bovine-loving cowboy and boasts of a loyal fan following. The opening dialogues are quite exaggerated but that is supposed to be specialty of the favourite southern gunslinger. It is quite long but, well you will manage to finish it off and will have your quota of some chuckles as well.

‘Murugan Superstar’ is the next number composed by Raghu Dixit and I must say, it’s a light, happy and easy composition. The chorus is great fun and song comes as very simple and yet quite effective. The next one is ‘Mind It’. Many people consider it as a Tamil Bhangra and you will have to accept that song is very innovative. Composition is quite interesting and song has the double bonanza flavor of bhangra and sambhar. ‘Kyoon Keeda Hai Aapko’ will certainly make you laugh. It’s witty and hilarious.

‘The sombrero’ is the next offering and it will remind you of great cowboy western themes. You can consider it as the theme song and it’s catchy as well. ‘Chat Mangni Lover’ is the next number which is basically a retro ballad. The song leaves a lot to be desired after generating the initial excitement. More of a predictable song but yes, it has great chorus. ‘Kuchi Kuchi Twist’ is breezy in nature whereas ‘Mera Naam Mango Dolly’ is a cabaret number that is appealing as well as spoofy. The last one is ‘Space Goddess’, a remixed version but it will make you move. All in all, quite an interesting album with elements of fun.
