Delhi-6 – Mellifluous Songs

Now, you must be wondering why I am selecting the movie Delhi-6 long after it has been released. The reason is simple. It has got A R Rahman and somehow even after few months of its release you can’t help but sing its wonderful songs. Mellifluous tunes of the movie leaves you spellbound and craving for more. Movie failed to create any magic on box office but its songs definitely created more than mere magic. Rahman seems to be on a roll since the beginning of 2008. Just to refresh your memory, remember 'Jodha Akbar', 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na', 'Yuvvraaj', 'Ghajini' and finally 'Slumdog Millionaire. One could not help but surrender to infectious 'Rah-mania'. Just try to remember any song of any of the above mentioned movie; you are sure to come up with unforgettable ones.  Whether it’s 'Tu Hi Meri Dost', 'Jai Ho', 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' or 'Guzarish, all of them were stupendously soul stirring.

Delhi-6 was another one in the league and it further enhanced Rahman’s magic. The movie had the hit combination of Rahman-Rakeysh Om Prakash who created wonders with their combination in 'Rang De Basanthi'. No song in the album comes under the category of ‘ordinary’. Be it 'Masakali', 'Maula', ‘Arziyan’ or any other song, they have just stuck to a true music lover’s heat.

Aarti (Tumre Bhavan Mein), Arziyan (Javel Ali, Kailash Kher) are as the lyrics suggest, spiritual or rather devotional in nature. The lyrics and composition are going to stay with you long after you switch off your music system. Arziyan will remind you of his other famous Sufi songs like 'Pia Haji Ali', 'Khwaja Mere Kwaja' in 'Jodhaa Akbar'. Bhor Bhaye is a Hindustani Ghazal and from there we swiftly move on to Delhi – 6 by Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Vivinenne Pocha, Tanvi, Claire. Two complete extremes and yet you will be besotted with both of them. Dil Gira Dafatan (Ash King, Backing Chinmayee), Genda Phool (Rekha Bharadwaj, Shraddha Pandit and Sujata Majumdar) have already proved to be chartbusters. The most viewed and heard one Masakali needs no introduction whereas Hey Kaala Bandhar (Karthik, Naresh, Srinivas, Bony Chakravarthy) is more into rap mould. Finally, song sung by maestro himself ‘Rehna Tu’ is as romantic as it gets. It is simply an awesome album that must be preserved.
