Songs maketh the movies

It’s an age old formula to interestingly use melody and make Hindi movies a great hit. Indians are highly inclined towards music. A single track melody from the rustic rural set up has a great effect on the audience. Using fusion is certainly helping, like in case of Billu the music interplayed between rustic tones and also included an upbeat number with Priyanka doing the grooves.

Sometimes peppy and comical numbers does much to lift a movie. The Sridevi starrer of Chalbaaz which has the song ‘Gudbad hogiyi – Seeti baj gayi’ went very well with the audience. A similar track from Ek Duje ke liye was the lift song. Here the lyrics and reaction mattered and is still a favorite among the audience. Hence there is nothing fixed about the audience’s appreciation. The recent track ‘All is well’ is hummed by all people, young and old.

Many movies in the past have been famous for their ghazal or intense songs. The songs from Arth or the songs from Aandhi have been a great hit. In fact people relate a particular picturisation or a song rendering and link the same to the movie. This happens in the case of Silsila too. Audience actually love actors singing their own songs like the title song of Chandni wherein Sridevi sang her own song or Nila Asman sung by Amitabhji and also the ruckus filled lyrics of Munnabhai sung by Sanjay Dutt.

In the yesteryears the songs typically dramatized as ‘running around the trees’ were remarkable and now are replaced by plush indoor settings and lavish club sets. There is more accentuation on mixing, recording and shooting. The Bhangra fever is still a super hit in all Hindi movies, be it the ‘Bhutnike’ song or the ‘Dil bole Hadippa’ numbers. A certain connection is certainly about the movies though one cannot standardize the audience demand and growing tastes.

 Main Ban Ke Pancchi

Aayega, Aayega Aanewala

Awara Hoon

Mera Joota Hai Japani

Bol Radha Bol

Jaane kyaa tuune kahii

Ai mere pyaare vatan

Ab ke baras bhej bhaiya ko babul

Wahan Kaun Hai Tera

Phuulon ke rang se

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge

Chandan saa badan, chanchal chitavan

Jab Pyar kia toh darna kya

Man re, tu kaahe na dheer dhare

Chalo dildaar chalein

Tere mere sapne ab ek rang hain

Din dhal jaaye, hai raat na jaaye

Roop tera mastana

Meri Hansini, Kaha udd chali

Mere Sapno Ki raani

romantic numbers

Melody translated to emotions is the best thing about Hindi music. The lyrics are well meaning and expression seems right with voice modulation. Recording studios too are very well equipped in various international sound techniques and this makes exploring good music really viable. Romantic numbers of the olden days also was based on good music and interludes. Tuning to the bela ke phool on the radio reminded us about the golden music of the old times.

Today’s new movie releases are also based with the popularity subject that is associated with good music. Melody is the primary reason to explore new talents in the stream of music. Music arrangers are also using different techniques to capture the essence needed in romantic music.

Recent songs like ‘Pheli baar mohabat ki hain’ from Kaminey and ‘Mere sang tu chal’ from New york are great music hits and also the set tune for mobiles. There are several songs of the past movies that are always remembered like ‘Jab koi baat’ from Jurm and ‘E mera dil’ from Parinda. These songs can be just heard over and over. Ghazals are also the advantage in Hindi film music and some ghazals are ever green ones.

Certain movies are also based on exploring romance and love themes and here there is a greater chance to explore ghazals and soft numbers. The song from Fashion - Marjawa and the popular ghazals from the film Umraaon Jaan are classic ones. The new generation songs like ‘Pehli Nazar’ from the film Race has set another trend in the hindi movie songs.

Hit romantic movies like ‘ Kuch kuch hota hain’ also have the peppy romantic numbers that are not typically soft like ‘ Koi mil gaya’. The old magic of tragic love songs in the melody of Mukesh and Rafi saab is evergreen. The mystery presnt in ‘Ayega aane wala’ is a great composition that is unaltered with time.
